Sound Velocity Pioneers

Founded in 1974, Applied Microsystems Ltd. has a 34 year track record in the field of oceanographic instrumentation.  We supply CTDs and sound velocimeters to military and civilian customers working in the fields of oceanography and hydrography.

What are we known for?  Applied Microsystems pioneered the design of the time-of-flight sound velocity sensor.  Today, we are the vendor of choice for sound velocity measurement for a wide range of marine survey organizations and manufacturers of multi-beam, single beam, intrusion detection, and positioning systems.

Our second claim to fame is high speed, rapid response time sensors.  Like the Micro CTD pictured below, all of our instruments have 25Hz sampling, and our sensors all have response times of under 100 milliseconds.  Why is that important?  Read our discussion paper on Salinity Spiking and its relationship to sensor response times.

Recalibration Made Easy
P•Xchange™ is an exchangeable, field-swappable pressure sensor.  Like the SV•Xchange sensor – launched in March 2008 at Oceanology International - P•Xchange™ eliminates the requirement to return instruments to the factory for pressure sensor recalibration.  Benefits include increased instrument field time and lower cost of ownership. P•Xchange™ also offers users the opportunity to deploy one instrument to dramatically different depths without losing accuracy or resolution.
The Minos SVP and Minos CTD are miniaturized logging profilers designed for vertical profiling deployments from small launches, boats or other space constrained environments.  Roughly ½ the size of the Applied Microsystems Plus v2, the Minos also incorporates an LED indicator light that communicates logging and battery status.

With the introduction of P•Xchange™, the Minos SVP is the industry’s only sound velocity profiling instrument that does not need to be returned to the factory for recalibration of any of its sensors.
